In this week’s discussion, you will share the search strategies you’ve used to locate evidence for your project. To guide the discussion, consider the following:
- State Your PICOT Question: Begin by restating your PICOT question. Reflect on whether the keywords from your PICOT question led you to useful research studies.
- MESH Terms: What MESH (Medical Subject Headings) terms have you experimented with? Did these terms help you discover more studies? Are you finding MESH terms helpful in broadening or narrowing your search?
- Finding Relevant Articles: Are you coming across relevant articles for your study? If not, explain how you adjusted your search terms or strategy to improve the results.
- Databases Used: List the databases you have explored. Which ones provided valuable resources, and which were less helpful for your research?
- Levels of Evidence: What levels of evidence are the studies you’ve found so far? Reflect on how these levels are contributing to your project.
- Questions or Concerns: Share any questions or concerns you have regarding your search process. Provide feedback and suggestions to your classmates. Collaborating and sharing search techniques can be immensely beneficial.
Additionally, use the Search Tracker to document your search terms.
Lastly, using the appropriate Rapid Clinical Appraisal (RCA) Tools, appraise one or two articles. Add this information to your Evaluation Table for feedback from faculty.
